Building Personal Branding with LinkedIn to Support Careers in Public Health Activities Career Track 2 APHSA BEM FKM UNAIR

In the current era of digitalization, many ways or activities can be done to increase self-value, which can be a tip for building personal branding. For a student who wants to start a career, personal branding can bring several benefits, namely networking, building a self-image in the digital world, creating social work, and so on. Apart from that, people with a personal brand also have a high level of self-confidence, are trustworthy, and have ‘characteristics’ that differentiate them from others.

On Sunday, September 24, 2023, the APHSA BEM FKM UNAIR Study and Professional Division held a work program in the form of a Webinar with the theme “Build Your Personal Branding with LinkedIn,” which was attended by 201 students and the general public throughout Indonesia. In this activity, the APHSA Study and Professional Division collaborated with an online boot camp called Halolearn. The speaker in this activity was the co-founder of Halolearn itself, namely Florentini Wang Liem, B.B.A., who is familiarly called Ms. Flo.

In looking for job opportunities, two strategies can be used, according to Ms. Flo, namely inbound systems and outbound strategies. Put, inbound refers to relationships that are already known. With this strategy, jobseekers will be contacted directly by a company via LinkedIn. Meanwhile, outbound strategies refer to job seekers who search for and apply for jobs through job portals and send emails to companies.

Ms. Flo emphasized how important the role of LinkedIn is in the current era. Currently, the LinkedIn community already has many members from various industries and professions worldwide. Based on existing data, Ms. Flo revealed that every minute, three people are recruited by companies via LinkedIn. There are more than 500,000 companies that use LinkedIn as a medium to search for, discover, and recruit new talent.

According to Ms. Flo, there are similarities between LinkedIn and CV. What differentiates them is that LinkedIn is an online CV that many people can access, so a profile is needed that suggest a person’s professionalism. There are reasons why we have to start building a profile on LinkedIn; according to Ms. Flo, recruiters will double-check to find out and assess who the applicant is and who suits the position in the company. Completing all profiles on LinkedIn will also make it easier for LinkedIn to understand and recommend job lists that fit each person. At the end of her presentation, Ms. Flo reiterated that creating an attractive LinkedIn for HR (Head Recruiter) is to emphasize keywords and skills.
